Regional Meetings

Monthly meetings are held in various regional centres where members are able to get to know each other and enjoy a wide variety of speakers, see film and slide shows or take part in outdoor visits to places of historic transport interest.

East Anglia:

Our social meetings will be held on the Second Thursday in each month at Christchurch Hall, Christchurch School Lane, Suffolk at 8:00pm. For more information please contact Area Secretary, Chris Butcher, on 01376 342782 or 07932 152686.

East Midlands:

Meetings are held at the Forester’s Arms, Main Street, Newthorpe, Nottinghamshire on the second Tuesday of every month, starting at 7:30pm in the bar and in a private room at 7:45 to 8:00pm.

* Richard and David Grainger’s Transport Miscellany was originally scheduled for March the 9th, but it became     possible to stage the delayed Tornado presentation in March, coinciding with the locomotive arriving at Loughborough later in the month.


 

London & South East:

Your Area social meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at the Village Hall, London Road (A224) in Dunton Green, Kent. The doors open at 7:30pm for a 8:00pm start. A warm welcome awaits you, and guests are always welcome. These meetings are only as good as your attendance. TUESDAY 6th April
 In a change to our previously advertised programme we proudly present  "An Evening of British Transport Films" Yes the Big Screen Scene comes to Dunton Green  with a digital presentation of some  transport themed BTF films from the 1950`s,60`s, & 70`s. There will be some old favourites, but the programme will also include many films that have not been seen for many years. Early arrival is recommended for one of our most popular evenings.
SUNDAY  2nd May
 Start of the 2010 London to Brighton Run  at Crystal Palace Park (Anerley Hill Entrance ) From 6 am till 9am be a part of the most prestigious commercial vehicle run in the country. With over 150 vehicles booked in to take part in the run so far this year, a chance to see the vehicles first hand.
TUESDAY 4th May
  Hot on the heels of the 2010 London to  Brighton Run we present a Photographic Evening with the renowned and knowledgeable Bob Moorman of past London to Brighton runs.
TUESDAY 1st  JUNE PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE
 An evening with the well known commercial vehicle journalist Allan Barnes.
 MONDAY 5th JULY
 Classic Vehicle Evening at Pollhill Garden Centre (A224) Badgers Mount Sevenoaks Kent. Just a couple of miles up the hill from Dunton Green, the LSE area hold their annual vehicle extravaganza. With over 600 entries last year of vehicles of all descriptions including  large & small commercials, buses, coaches, fire engines, cars of all types, shapes & sizes, motorcycles, scooters, traction engines, stationary engines, tractors farm machinery ect ect, this show has something for everyone and is one of the largest evening vehicle meetings in the country. Gates open at 6pm for exhibitors, and 7pm for public entrance     
 TUESDAY3rd AUGUST
Quiz Night.  A light hearted transport themed quiz with prizes for everybody. Come along and test your transport knowledge.
TUESDAY 7th SEPTEMBER
 Welcome return of ace photographer Andy Ballistat and his pictures of  the scrap yards and various vehicles. Always a fascinating evening.
 Tuesday 5th OCTOBER
  John Meakins Fire Service Evening. John is one of the foremost experts on all things to do with the Fire Service in the country, and this promises to be an extremely interesting evening.
 SUNDAY 17th  OCTOBER
 Spratt & Winkle Road Run from Sevenoaks to Hastings. A road run for HCVS member's vehicles  to the seaside at Hastings via the leafy byways and secondary roads through the beautiful Kent and Sussex countryside..... More details to follow.
TUESDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
 Stalwart area supporters Alan & Lyn Cullen with their selection of slides from here there and everywhere.

North East:

Unless otherwise stated, meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at the The Companions Club,  Ainsley Street (opposite Arriva bus garage and under the railway viaduct), Durham City DH1 4BJ at 7:30pm, free buffet.  Visitors are most welcome.

North Midlands:

Our meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month (September to May) at the Norton Arms, Norton, Stoke on Trent. From the A500 take the A53 towards Leek for approximately 2.5 miles. After the Holden Bridge pub and Moorlands Leisure Caravans turn left at the second set of lights signed Norton 1 mile. Approaching Norton, the Norton Arms is then on the opposite corner of the crossroads by the new traffic lights. Turn right and immediately left after the filling station into the pub car park. Meeting from 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start. Non-members welcome. We are always on the lookout for speakers, places to visit etc. If you can help in any way, please get in touch on the above number.

Meetings are held at Church House, Caversham, Reading (near Waitrose) unless otherwise stated, 7.45 for 8pm. Visitors and guests all most welcome. No charge but donation appreciated!

South Wales:

Meetings are held on the third Friday of every month, proposal is to return to Cardiff. South West:

Meetings are normally held on the second Thursday of the month at BAWA (British Aerospace Welfare Association), Southmead Road, Filton, Bristol, starting at 7:45 for 8:00pm unless otherwise stated. New members are very welcome, why not come along for a chat with fellow enthusiasts. Feel free to bring family or guests. We try to  arrange a varied programme with something for all tastes. You can find the BAWA by leaving the M5 at J16 (Aztec West) and following the A38 towards the city. After passing Rolls-Royce turn right at the next roundabout into Southmead Road and BAWA is on your right in half a mile.

                                        West Midlands:

Meetings from March onwards will be held at "Dolly's Lounge" at the D.D.S.&S. Social Club in the centre of Bromsgrove at 14-22 Stourbridge Road (B4091), Bromsgrove.
The Club has its own car park.


Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month, 7:45 for an 8:00pm prompt start. A warm welcome is extended to all members, old and new.

Yorkshire:

Unless otherwise stated all meeting are held at : West Hunslet Conservative Club, Green Terrace House, Dewsbury Road, Leeds.  Meetings start at 19:45, everyone welcome.  Licensed bar and car parking on site.  Contact Area Secretary for more details and directions.

Wednesday 17th March - After a break of some time ANDY BALLISAT returns from Lincolnshire with a ‘Cocktail of Historic Commercials’ a varied selection in and out of use

Wednesday 21st April - To keep the ‘bus side’ happy PHILIP THORNES from Selby will present us with the story of the 60 year successful history of his family firm, using a variety of media. 

Wednesday 19th May - Welcome return of CARL JOHNSON from Stoke with another selection from his ‘AROUND & ABOUT’ views of elderly commercial vehicles.

Wednesday 16th June - BRING YOUR VEHICLE NIGHT returns once again to the familiar setting of MANHEIM AUCTIONS at ROTHWELL.  All vehicles built before 1989 welcome. Hot & cold food & drink available.

Wednesday 21st July -  Bring Your VIDEO or DVD Night: we will be in the Hubert Lister room with the latest in big screen technology!

Southern Counties Historic Vehicle Preservation Trust:

Meetings are held in Committee Room 2 at County Hall, Chichester, on the 2nd Tuesday of the month and, unless otherwise stated, are slide shows. Room 2 is available from 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start. We finish by 10:30pm. Light snacks are available at the interval. There is ample free parking at the front of County Hall and comfortable seating. Entrance is in the right-hand archway on the left-hand side. (Buildings security is in force, so tap on the door or Committee Room window if you can’t get in!). All SCHVPT & HCVS members and friends are welcome to these meetings and to those at Queens Hall, Cuckfield on the first Friday of the month, organised by Brian Johnson.
